How to Prevent Spam in 3 Easy Steps
Wednesday, July 14th, 2010 | Author: Stephen Waters

First of all let us give the definition of Spam. Spam is junk mail or unsolicited mail that you receive. It is a huge annoyance and a waste of your precious time by having to delete these messages.

There is an old saying, “Prevention is the best cure”. This saying is very relevant to this topic, once you start getting spam, it’s harder to stop. This is why there are a few techniques you should make a habit of using in order to prevent unwanted spam mail.

1)Don’t use your primary email address for online forms

Be careful about which website you give your primary email address to. There are millions of websites that collect email addresses and then sell or give them to spammers (The people sending the spam).
I recommend that you sign up for a free email address that you don’t mind receiving junk mail. Gmail would be the best choice there, as it’s fast and they also have the best anti-spam filters.

2) Don’t advertise your email address in on your website

This is an important one. Majority of spammers have nifty software packages that visit millions and millions of websites searching for email addresses and collecting them into a nice big database of email addresses to sent junk mail to.
How do I let customers mail me on my business website? Good question! The best alternative is to either use an online contact form which hides your email address from spammers and allows customers or visitors to message you, or you can make a image file displaying your email address.

3) Don’t use your primary email address for domain registrations

It’s the same as the last point, spammers can find your email address from your domain registration form and use it for spamming. Rather use your free email account for registering domains.

These 3 steps are easy to follow, but you must stick to them otherwise you will start to see an increase in unwanted spam.
